Structural characterization of the phase transition of Al2O3 nanopowders obtained by the polymer precursor method

The nanocrystalline Al2O3 powders were synthesized using the polymer precursor method. A study of the evolution of the crystalline phases of the powders obtained was carried out using X-ray diffraction, micro-Raman spectroscopy and refinement of the structures using the Rietveld method. The results obtained allow us to identify three stages in the γ-Al2O3 to α-Al2O3 phase transition. Single-phase α-Al2O3 powder was obtained after heat treatment at 1050°C for 2 hours. A study of the morphology of the particles was carried out using measurements of crystallite size, specific surface area and transmission electron microscopy. Particle size is closely related to the γ-Al2O3 to α-Al2O3 phase transition.
